IRIS avanza hacia su prueba piloto|IRIS goes towards its pilot test
Luego de varios meses en busca de los recursos necesarios para la fabricación de los dispositivos IRIS a ser utilizado en la prueba piloto del Proyecto IRIS, la empresa DUTO con el apoyo de la Alcaldía de Pereira realizó el proceso productivo de 10 dispositivos IRIS. Este gran acontecimiento marca un hecho trascendental en la historia del
Proyecto IRIS y de la ciudad de Pereira, ya se esta avanzando en la meta de comercializar y distribuir el sistema IRIS, que está proyectada para el segundo semestre de este año a nivel nacional y para el año 2009 para
su incursión internacional, convirtiendo así a la Perla del Otún en una ciudad ejemplo en el desarrollo de tecnologías de apoyo a las personas en situación de discapacidad visual.
En la prueba piloto se probarán los materiales pedagógicos adaptados al sistema IRIS de la básica primaria, gracias al apoyo de la Alcaldía Social de Pereira quien designo a personal experto de la Unidad de Atención Integral de Pereira (UAI), a la experta en Tiflología María del Socorro González y a la neuropsicopedagoga Ana María Chamorro, quienes asesoraron el proceso de generación de las imágenes y las actividades aplicables al sistema IRIS desde preescolar hasta tercero y que serán depuradas mediante la prueba piloto a realizarse en el primer semestre
del año, con recursos que se esperan recibir de la Alcaldía de Pereira.
Estos novedosos dispositivos que fueron entregados a la Alcaldía de Pereira [1], se fabricaron en 5 fabulosos colores [2] que se ajustan al ambiente infantil en el que serán usados e incluyen nuevas características en su diseño que reduce ostensiblemente el número de cables necesarios para su utilización, su peso y espacio ocupado, todo
esto gracias al soporte profesional brindado por el Médico y Magíster en Instrumentación Física Juan Miguel Arbeláez que asesoró todo el proceso de producción de la nueva carcasa del sistema IRIS.

sumaron en el esfuerzo de producción de los dispositivos y a todos los amigos del proyecto que desinteresadamente donan su trabajo a esta noble causa.

After long time looking for financial support to develop the IRIS devices needed for the pilot test of the IRIS Project, DUTO with the support of the “Alcaldía Social de Pereira” (Local Government), have developed the first 10 IRIS devices. This is a big achievement for the IRIS Project and for Pereira City, because is a new step toward the goal
of the commercialization and distribution of the IRIS system, that is scheduled for the second part of the year 2008 for the national side and for the year 2009 for the international distribution. All of this is part of the strategy of making Pereira a leader in development of assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
In this pilot test will be tested the pedagogical materials adapted for the IRIS system from the Colombian Elementary School. This have been made with the support of the “Alcaldía Social de Pereira” who assigned two experts from the Integral Atention Unit from Pereira (UAI), the expert in tiflology María del Socorro González and the Neuro
Psychopedagogy Ana María Chamorro, who helped in the development of the Images and Activities that can be used with the IRIS System for the five first grades of the Colombian Elementary School. These pedagogic materials will be debugged with the IRIS Pilot Test that will be make in the first semester of this year with financial support that is expected from the “Alcaldía Social de Pereira” (local government).
These revolutionary devices that were delivered to the “Alcaldía Social de Pereira”, were delivered in five fantastic colors[2] specially selected for the children that will use them, and include new characteristics in its design that reduces the amount of wires needed to plug them, that reduces also its weight and height. These improvements
were achieve thanks to the professional support gave by the Medic and Msc in Physic’s Instrumentation Juan Miguel Arbelaez who helped in the development process of the new enclosure of the IRIS system.
